OUR BOARD OF TRUSTEES

Max Ventura is the Chairman of CANVAS' Board. He is an established social development professional who has spent over two decades as head of Philam Foundation. Max is also the chairperson of the Philippine Coalition on Volunteerism, and serves as a trustee of the Museum Foundation Philippines, the Philippine College of Surgeon-Cancer Commission Foundation, the Philippine Foundation for Health and Development Inc. of The Medical City, and the Angat Buhay Movement of Atty. Leni Robredo.  

Rachel Follosco is a founding partner of the Law Offices of Follosco Morallos and Herce, a highly regarded law firm specializing in corporate and commercial law; public-private partnerships; construction; energy, aviation and mining; litigation and arbitration; immigration law; intellectual property law; taxation; and labor law. She is a tax expert, with extensive exposure in international taxation, tax structuring, and tax planning in relation to property acquisition, financing, and capital investment transactions. She is a tax consultant for various USAID-funded projects for the Bureau of Internal Revenue, particularly the taxation of the telecommunications industry and projects focused on improving business competitiveness in the Philippines. In addition, she was a senior lecturer in Taxation Law, Banking and Finance, and Legal Accounting at the University of the Philippines from 1994 to 2000 and in 2009.


Liza Flores is a past president of Ang Ilustrador ng Kabataan (Ang INK), the Philippines' first and only organization of illustrators for children. She is also a partner at Studio Dialogo, a small design and illustration studio in Manila. For CANVAS, she art directed and designed Karapat Dapat (2018), which was included in The White Ravens list for 2020, a selection by the International Youth Library of the best 200 children’s books around the world.

Robby Galang is the dean of the John Gokongwei School of Management in Ateneo de Manila University.  He was formerly a Senior Private Sector Specialist for the World Bank.  Prior to joining the World Bank Group, Robby has had more than a decade of international experience in the analysis of strategic and regulatory issues for private corporations. Robby completed his PhD in Management from the IESE Business School, his MSc in Development Economics from Oxford University and his AB in Communications from Ateneo de Manila University where he was the class valedictorian.

Mariella Sugue Castillo is the Managing Director of the Consuelo Zobel Alger Foundation. Trained as a pediatrician and public health professional, Yella brings over two decades of experience in child protection and public health and the related interdisciplinary fields that respond to and prevent child abuse and neglect.
She previously worked as a Health Specialist at UNICEF Philippines focusing on strengthening health systems to deliver evidence-based maternal and child health care aligned with global health goals. Yella is one of the Philippine pioneers in the field of child protection. She received The Outstanding Young Men (TOYM) Award for her work in this field. She graduated from the University of the Philippines College of Medicine and has a master’s degree in Clinical Epidemiology. She was also a professor of pediatrics at the University of the Philippines.

Marianne G. Quebral is a senior Development Consultant who specializes in Fund Raising, Resource Mobilization, Non-Profit Management and Strategic Planning with over 3 decades of experience in progressive leadership roles. Mayan is the CEO and President of Akubo Software Philippines which provides advice to over 50 local and 20 international schools, non-government organizations and church-based organizations in order for these to raise the resources they need to achieve their missions. She is a pioneer in fund raising and trained at The Fund Raising School in Indiana, U.S.A. She has raised funds for organizations such as UNICEF, Asian Institute of Management, Ayala Foundation, Inc., Ang Misyon, Inc. and Save the Children, to name a few. Mayan also served as lead consultant for Venture for Fund Raising, a non-profit she co- founded in 1999, to provide fund raising training, mentoring and research for the non-profit sector. While at Venture, Mayan trained over 1,000 development professionals in over 24 countries. She also led gift giving motivation research in the Philippines, Thailand, Indonesia, Pakistan, Nepal, India and Bangladesh. Mayan authored The Fund Raiser's Guide to Fund Raising and Fund Raising 101.

Gigo Alampay is the founder and executive director of CANVAS. In 2014, for his work in CANVAS, Gigo was awarded a writing fellowship by the Rockefeller Foundation at its Bellagio Center in Italy. The fellowship is one of the most prestigious and competitive in the world, counting among its past awardees numerous Nobel laureates, Pulitzer winners, and MacArthur fellows. He is a multi-awarded author, with two children’s books (“YouThink” and “Safe Space: A Kid’s Guide to Data Privacy” ) having won the National Children’s Book Award in 2022; and another title, “How to Raise Your Child” earning the Gintong Aklat Award for Inspiration in 2024. Gigo is also a recognized law and policy expert in information and communications technology, and competition with more than two decades experience in providing technical assistance to the Philippine government on economic and competition-enhancing reform initiatives. Gigo has been honored with outstanding alumni awards from the University of the Philippines (2016), and the Graduate School of Global Policy and Strategy of the University of California San Diego (2008).
