CANVAS nominated for the Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award 2025
The Center for Art, New Ventures & Sustainable Development (CANVAS) has been nominated for the prestigious Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award (ALMA), a global award given annually to a person or organisation for their outstanding contribution to children’s and young adult literature. The laureate will be announced in 2025, the same year CANVAS will celebrate its 20th anniversary.
Writer-illustrator wins 38th Romeo Forbes Children's Story Writing Competition
The Center for Art, New Ventures, and Sustainable Development awards the prize for its 38th Romeo Forbes Children's Story Writing Competition to Jayson Baltero Barona’s Ang Naglalakbay na Karinderya.
Barona shall be receiving the cash prize of forty-five thousand pesos for his story. A record-breaking 320 entries, all based on the artwork by June Digan, were received for this competition. CANVAS also congratulates Christopher Rosales for the story Ang Nagpapalit Hugis Naming Eskuwela and Eric Roxas for the story Ang mga Kamangha-manghang Kaibigan ni Kiko, which were selected as finalists for this run.

This Children’s Museum in Ibaan Sparks Conversations About the Environment
Last Saturday, June 15, the museum site was filled with kids, parents, teachers, and community members of Ibaan. The pupils of Sto. Niño Elementary School, Ibaan District actively participated in a tour, curiously exploring the details of artworks made from recycled materials and happily hugging the colorful bagras trees.

Fantasy writer wins 37th Romeo Forbes Children's Story Writing Competition
The Center for Art, New Ventures, and Sustainable Development awards the prize for its 37th Romeo Forbes Children's Story Writing Competition to Leonard John Banaag’s Where are my Legs?.
Banaag shall be receiving the cash prize of forty-five thousand pesos for his story. Almost 190 entries, all based on the artwork by Nat Lamina, were received for this competition. CANVAS also congratulates Edgar C. Samar for the story Ang Batang Nahahati sa Tatlo and Jayson Barona for the story Manang Angal, Ang Katipunerang Manananggal, which were selected as finalists for this run.
CANVAS Books bag awards at the first-ever Severino Reyes Medal
I Like Wearing Rainbows written by Agay Llanera and illustrated by Lui Manaig won the Severino Reyes Medal Best Storybook for 2024. Moon Rising written by Phoebe de Leon and illustrated by Iggy Rodriguez was included in the Honor List for the Storybook category.
Manila Water, CANVAS, One Ayala immortalize value of water through Waterscapes art exhibit
CANVAS partnered with Manila Water and Ayala One for the installment of this year’s Art 4 Development Outdoor Banner Show, Waterscapes. This exhibit showcased art that raises awareness on water as a valuable natural resource.
Art for the Environment: CANVAS launches its first Art Biennale
February 24, 2024 was a sunny morning at the opening day of If Trees Could Talk, an International Art Biennale organized by The Center for Art, New Ventures and Sustainable Development. This event is one of our initiatives to use art in discussing environmental issues, particularly climate change. At the site of Tumba-Tumba Children’s Museum of Philippine Art, guests of all ages joined the short program which included a curatorial walkthrough and roaming time to view and interact with the art.

CANVAS and Ayala Museum bring together poetry and art in their latest exhibit, “I Teach My Child”
The exhibit “I Teach My Child” launched last February 13 at the Ayala Museum. It features Dr. Gémino Abad’s poem, “I Teach My Child”, which was interpreted by Emmanuel Garibay through a collection of paintings and sculptures.

Our books I am the Change in Climate Change by Alyssa Peleo-Alampay, PhD and Ang INK won Best in Book Design, while A Bridge for Silay by Agay Llanera and Ronson Culibrina became a finalist for the Graphic Literature category of Gintong Aklat Awards 2022.
CANVAS Joins the 40th National Children’s Book Day
The Center for Art, New Ventures and Sustainable Development attends the 40th National Children’s Book Day. We took part in celebrating the winners of the PBBY-Salanga and Alcala Prizes for the past years. We also met with the Girl Scouts of the Philippines, beneficiary of our One Million Books for One Million Children Campaign.

Rosales shall be receiving the cash prize of forty-five thousand pesos for his story 𝐴𝑛𝑔 𝑁𝑎𝑤𝑎𝑤𝑎𝑙𝑎𝑛𝑔 𝐴𝑟𝑎𝑤. A total of 90 entries, all based on the artwork by John Marin, were received for this competition. CANVAS also congratulates Edelio P. De los Santos for his story 𝐿𝑖𝑙𝑖𝑎'𝑠 𝐹𝑖𝑟𝑠𝑡 𝐿𝑎𝑙𝑎, which was selected as a finalist for this run.
