Call for entries: 37th Romeo Forbes Children's Story Writing Competition
The Center for Art, New Ventures, and Sustainable Development (CANVAS) is now accepting entries for the 37th Romeo Forbes Children's Story Writing Competition.
Held at least twice a year, the Romeo Forbes Competition is the first and only of its kind, inviting writers to pen a children’s story inspired by a painting or sculpture by CANVAS’ chosen local Filipino artist.
The artwork for this run is “The Manananggal” by Nat Lamina, a Filipino-Canadian artist, based in Manitoba, Canada. Lamina’s art is known for its classical aesthetic, reminiscent of the Old Masters’ paintings. His work features Western subjects featuring Greek mythology and religious subjects. Born and raised in the Philippines, he started working with paintings about local myths in the country. Given his background, Lamina produces a fusion of traditional Western painting technique and oriental subjects from Southeast Asia.
Open to all Filipinos anywhere on the planet, the Romeo Forbes Competition will offer its winner a cash prize of PHP45,000 (less applicable taxes) and a chance for their story to be published as a hardcover picture book.
The complete rules and conditions can be found via http://www.canvas.ph/romeo-forbes-competition. Deadline is on February 23, 2024.
A non-profit that works with the creative community to promote literacy and explore national identity, CANVAS publishes its award-winning children's stories and donates their books to benefit children in public schools and poor communities throughout the Philippines.
