CANVAS receives NBDB Publication Grant

Pasay, Metro Manila — The Center for Art, New Ventures and Sustainable Development was awarded a Publication Grant for 2023 by the National Book Development Board. Annette Ferrer, CANVAS Community Outreach and Grants Manager, attended the Philippine Book Festival last June 2, 2023 at World Trade Center to receive the grant for the upcoming book, BABAE! 18 Fierce and Fearless Filipinas.

Babae! tells the stories of local women whose lives have significantly shaped our country. An all-women book, it will spotlight profiles, written by Agay Llanera, accompanied by portraits of the featured historical Filipinas created by artists Abi Dionisio, Lui Gonzales, and Nina Garibay.

The National Book Development Board’s publication grant provides financial subsidies for Filipino-made and published books. This grant supports local publishers with a maximum of PHP200,000.00 to cover the costs of copy editing, layout, design, and printing.

A non-profit that works with the creative community to promote literacy and explore national identity, CANVAS publishes its award-winning children's stories and donates their books to benefit children in public schools and poor communities throughout the Philippines. Its “One Million Books for One Million Filipino Children Campaign” promotes independent reading and creative thinking in Filipino children, while also exposing them to the best of contemporary Filipino art and literature.
