Exhibit on safe internet opens at Globe Tower
A pocket museum for kids opened at Globe Tower on May 17, 2022 to promote online safety.
Previously displayed at the UP Vargas Museum, the Safe Internet exhibit was opened with a ribbon-cutting ceremony by National Privacy Commission’s Deputy Commissioners Leandro Angelo Aguirre and Dug Christopher Mah, Globe’s Chief Privacy Officer Irish Salandanan-Almeida and Chief Information Security Officer Anton Bonifacio, CANVAS Founder and Executive Director Gigo Alampay, and Google Philippines Head of Government Affairs and Public Policy Yves Gonzalez.
The exhibit includes interactive art installations designed by Studio Dialogo, based on books written by Gigo Alampay, and published by CANVAS (The Center for Art, New Ventures, and Sustainable Development) with the help of UBS, Globe, and Google through a partnership with CANVAS’ One Million Books for One Million Filipino Children Campaign.
One of the books, “Safe Space,” was awarded as the Privacy Initiative of 2021 by the National Privacy Commission. Intended for early graders, the book guides kids on how to protect themselves and their personal information from online dangers. The second book “#YouThink” helps adolescents navigate online information, providing tips on differentiating credible news from fake ones.
This exhibit was designed as an opportunity for CANVAS to give visitors a glimpse of its vision for what a children's museum ought to be: visually engaging, memorable, and fearlessly interactive.
A non-profit that works with the creative community to promote literacy and explore national identity, CANVAS publishes its award-winning children's stories and donates their books to benefit children in public schools and poor communities throughout the Philippines. Its “One Million Books for One Million Filipino Children Campaign” promotes independent reading and creative thinking in Filipino children, while also exposing them to the best of contemporary Filipino art and literature.
