New release: I Like Wearing Rainbows

With its commitment to making our books as accessible as possible, the Center for Art, New Ventures, & Sustainable Development (CANVAS) is proud to announce that its newest book, I Like Wearing Rainbows, is now available for free download from its website.

"Boys don't wear dresses."

Since that day, I wore the dresses only when I was in Lola's room. But one day, Lola got sick—with a fever that kept her bundled in a blanket, and a cough I could hear through the wall. I waited patiently for the day I could play in her room again.

A heartwarming story of love and acceptance, this book won the Romeo Forbes Children's Story Writing Competition. Agay Llanera, a freelance writer for television and the web, wrote this story inspired by a painting created by contemporary visual artist Lui Manaig for the competition.

CANVAS holds the Romeo Forbes Competition at least twice a year, open to Filipinos worldwide. The first and only of its kind, it invites writers to pen a children’s story inspired by a painting or sculpture by CANVAS’ chosen local Filipino artist.

A hardcover version of the book is also available via Looking for Juan where every purchase will be matched with book donations in support of CANVAS' One Million Books for One Million Filipino Children Campaign.

A non-profit that works with the creative community to promote literacy and explore national identity, CANVAS publishes its award-winning children's stories and donates their books to benefit children in public schools and poor communities throughout the Philippines. Its One Million Books Campaign promotes independent reading and creative thinking in Filipino children, while also exposing them to the best of contemporary Filipino art and literature.
