PH launches exhibit to commemorate 30th Anniversary of the Convention on the Rights of the Child at UN New York

18 November 2019, New York – The Philippine Mission to the United Nations in New York, in cooperation with the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF), and Center for Art, New Ventures and Sustainable Development - Ang Ilustrador ng Kabataan (CANVAS – Ang INK), launched the exhibit “Karapat Dapat Child Know Your Rights” at the UN Headquarters on 18 November 2019. The exhibit was mounted to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC).

Chargé d’Affaires Kira Christianne D. Azucena welcomed representatives from Member States, UN agencies, exhibit partners, and friends.

“In the Philippines, children are valuable members of our society. They take pride of place in every family. Their safety and security are ensured, and their rights and well-being are promoted and protected,” Ms. Azucena said in her statement. “The exhibit is our humble way of demonstrating our country’s commitment to create awareness on and advance children’s rights in the international community,” she added.

The exhibit features reading pages of the book "Karapat Dapat: Child Know Your Rights" an interactive, bilingual book in English and Filipino inspired by the CRC. The book is produced by CANVAS and Ang INK, a Filipino artist group.

During the ceremony, children read passages from the book. They also cut the ceremonial ribbon.

The Philippines ratified the CRC in 1990, and have since passed many laws to implement its provisions.

The exhibit runs until 22 November 2019. END

Karapat Dapat is available via Looking for Juan, where every purchase will be matched by 2 book donations in support for CANVAS' One Million Books for One Million Filipino Children Campaign.
